Stop using Plastic

Kia ora, this week for reading we had to pick 3 tasks one of the ones I picked was about recycling. For our create we had to make a poster about why we should stop using plastics in our school and in our communites. Some of the reasons you should stop using plastic are that it can ruin the enviroment even by leaving a tiny bit of rubbish on the ground. You could use reusable containers to prevent waste. If you leave rubbish around it could end up in the ocean and kill the animals. Reduce reuse and recycle.

This is the poster that I made about recycling.

How do you recycle in your life.

How can we be champions of peace

For the last four weeks of Term 3 we were learning about ‘How we can be Champions of Peace’.

Firstly we learnt about the different symbols of peace. Some of these are the Dove and the olive branch and the peace CND symbol.

These symbols represent peace because the dove represents peace because in Noah’s ark the dove returned with a olive branch after the flood. The peace sign is the CND was used during the anti nucleor weapons movement and in modern times it is now used as a sign for peace and hope.

With these symbols in mind I created a Peace Artwork. My Peace Artwork represents peace because it shows the dove that represents Noah’s ark when the dove came back with a olive branch. I also added the CND peace symbol because this is a modern day peace and hope symbol.

This is the artwork I did.

We also researched some real life champions of peace and wrote a short biography. I wrote about St Francis of Assisi. I thought this person was a champion of peace because he shows peace and love to animals aswell as to people. I like how he loved animals because I think that is important.

We also created a peace prayer book. I have attached my peace prayer book here.

I enjoyed learning about peace because it is important in our world to show peace and kindness to others if we want to live a happy life.

I learnt about different peace prayers of different religions, I also why peace is so important in our world today.

One way I plan on being a champion of peace is by showing kindness and peace to everyone around me and trying to be peaceful in the world.

Inferring

Kia ora, this week for reading we have been learning about inferring pictures and texts. Inferring is when you look at a picture, reading a book or looking at the front page of a book and you come up with ideas that it doesn’t say or show but you look for clues and come up with new ideas. The photo I did was someone saying “Everything ok?” then the other person says “Yes” but in his mouth it says No. I think this photo shows that it is ok that not everything is ok and you don’t have to say yes everytime someone asks.

This is the create that I made.

I enjoyed making this create and inferring about the photo.

The New Zealand Wars

Kia ora, this week for reading we have been learning about the New Zealand wars and text features. We had to make a google drawing about the New Zealand wars and add as many text features as we can. The text features I used were, a title, a heading, a image and a caption for the image. A title is the thing that is at the top and it draws the reader into what you have written. A heading is something is goes above the main part of the text to show what the topic is about, a image is important to make the reader more interested and images are better to look at then a whole bunch of words. A caption for the image explains what is in the photo.

This is the create that I made.

I really enjoyed making this create and learning about the New Zealand wars.

What do you know about the New Zealand wars?

Maths Pattern

Kia ora, this week for maths we have been learning about symmetry. For our create we had to make a pattern that have different colours. Symetry is when you cut something in half or you put it up to a mirror and both of the sides look the same. Some shapes that are symmetrical are sqaures, hearts and octogons. I made my pattern and it has diamonds, squares, triangles, hearts, and pentagons. I used lots of different colours that go with eachother.

This is the pattern I made.

I really enjoyed making this pattern and I really liked all of the colours and shapes I used.

What is your favourtie colour?

The Berlin War

Kia ora, this week for reading we have been learning about the Berlin war and how they had to build a wall that they built in 2 days so east Germany and west Germany could be separated. Our create was to make a google drawing of a text conversation between me and one of my cousin and I picked Amber. Before we started our create we had to read a book about the Berlin war. On the 13th of August 1961 the east German government began to build a wall to seperate the east and west germans. The wall was built right through the city of Berlin and it was finished in just two days, the wall was finally torn down in 1989.

This is the conversation I made with Amber.

I really enjoyed making this create.

Have you ever been seperated from your family?

Science

Kia ora, for the past 2 weeks we have been doing science. One of the experiments that we did was called the battery power experiment. You had to put some salt in a container of water, then you had to get 2 different nails we used copper and zinc. We used a buzzer to connect the nails into the container and when we added the salt if we did it right we could hear a high pitched noise.

The materials we used were:

3/4 cup of water in a small jar

Teaspoon of salt

Two wires (1 red and 1 black)

1 buzzer

Two copper nails

Two zinc nails

Our hypothesis was that when we added the salt we would hear the noise.

When we put the salt into the water we didn’t hear the noise, we realised it didn’t work because we had been using the same two nails. For it to work you had to use one copper nail and one zinc nail and connect them to the correct wire. After some trial and error we finally got it to work and we could hear the noise.

This is the experiment that we did.

I really enjoyed doing all of these science experiments and I think this one was my favourite.

Have you ever done a science experiment and what was it?

Poetry

Kia ora, for the past couple of weeks we have been doing poetry. We learnt about lots of different types of poems and we have been reading and writing them. The different types of poems we have been learning about are limerick, blackout, haiku, dimante, biographical and list poems.

A Limerick is a poem that has 5 lines, the last 2 words in the first 2 lines have to rhyme. Then the 3rd and 4th lines rhyme with eachother, the 5th line rhymes with the first 2 lines.

A blackout poem is when you get a page of a story and you pick out some words from the story that stand out to you. When you pick some words you circle them, then you colour over the rest of the story so the words you picked out stand out.

A biographical poem is when you choose somone to write it about. The first line has their first name then you write about their intrests and about the person you chose to do.

A haiku is when you write a poem that has 3 lines. The first and third line has 5 syllables and the second line has 7 syllables. A syllable is a part of a word, for example ap-ple it has to syllables and cat has one.

A dimante is a poem that looks like a diamond. You have one noun on the first and last line the second and fourth line have 2 adjectives and the 3rd line has 3 words that end in ing.

A list poem is when you have 4 lines and each poem has a topic. You think of 4 words to go with that go with your topic each line you write something about the word for example, cats with long whiskers.

This is the slideshow I made with all of my poems.

I really enjoyed doing all of these poems and I think my favourite one was the biographical poem.

Have you ever made any of these poems?

Mid Winter Breakfast

Kia ora, this week for maths we had to spin a wheel 45 times and telly chart what the wheel landed on. The options were hotcakes, porridge, sausage sizzle and hot chocolate. We had to put the outcome on a table then we had to make a graph that shows the final outcome. My graph shows that the hotcakes were the most popular and hot chocolate was the least popular. The outcome I got was 14 hotcakes, 12 porridge, 10 sausage sizzle and 9 hot chocolate. I really enjoyed making this graph and spinning the wheel!

This is my poster that I made.

What option would you pick?

Porridge Play Poster

Kia ora, for the past few weeks we have been preparing for a production that our school is doing in term 3. The name of the production is porridge and some people have been auditioning for the speaking rolls. I didn’t audition but each hub is going to perform a song and dance in the play. There are five different shows which take place on the 15th of August at 1:30 pm and at 6pm, on the 16th of August there is another two performences at 1:30pm and 6pm. The final performence is on the 17th which jsut has a evening show at 6pm. I have made a poster with all of the imformation you need to know if you are coming to the production.

I really enjoyed making this poster!

Have you ever been apart of a school production/play?
